Riverstone Band had a great time playing for a the HHSC contract procurement team on October 18th at the Radisson Hotel. With Wayne Wilson on stage things got pumped up and everyone had a great time.
These are a great bunch of hard working people and they deserved a little rest and fun.
Thanks HHSC, Wayne Wilson, and a special thanks to the staff of the contract procurement team...you're a hoot!

Early 2003 found the future RiverStone band looking for a lead guitarist. This turned out to be a frustrating exercise, but at least entertaining. The original axman really was not in a good place for the job, and I’ll leave it at that.
Next up was a man with great chops but no time to commit to us. Steve showed up with a well-loved Stratocaster and an equally loved Marshall amp. The amp volume knob was set to ‘11’- then the knob was discarded. I’ll take this moment to apologize to the neighborhood again.
A craigslist ad produced an experienced frontman that looked like he’d fit the bill. Marty was playing lead guitar, choosing the songs and singing them, too – we were his backup band The rest of us were starting to chafe a bit (don’t tell George to stop playing and just listen – it’s his sandbox, after all!). OK, and I’ll admit it – he was going to be the lead singer, too and since my guitar skills were (are) lacking, I didn’t have much to do! We lost this particular picker to a potential tour of Europe with his old bandmate.
I met number 4 in Lago Vista and invited him to sit in. Joe was already involved in a Rolling Stones tribute band in Las Vegas playing the part of Keith Richards. Joe couldn’t guarantee he’d be around when we needed him, but we had some fun ‘jammin’ with the Stones!
So, we were beginning to despair of ever finding anyone to fill the spot. Right on cue, Dave Floyd walks into the office at the Point Venture Property Owner’s Association to take care of some business as a new property owner. He advised the beautiful and helpful secretary there (my wife Laurie) that he plays electric guitar and that if the neighbors were ever disturbed he will be happy to turn the volume back down. Laurie’s ears perked up and she asked him about that guitar playing: what kind of music, are you in a band, etc. Turned out he’d just moved from Colorado, had no band and he plays lead. Laurie called me on the spot and Dave was at our next rehearsal.
Dave turned out to be a great fit as a lead guitarist, song arranger, showman, and most of all a truly great friend to us all. The energy, spirit and pure joy this man put into playing this music was, and remains, inspiring to us all. Many of the songs on our set list were tunes Dave played in his first band at 16 years of age. He remarked more than once that playing these songs again made him feel like a teenager again.
Life tends to present opportunities and alternatives at every turn. Dave has recently found new worlds to explore musically through the acoustic guitar. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself somewhere, sometime and guitar music drifts to your ear and it’s so
incredibly beautiful and moving that you realize you have forgotten to breathe…it just might be Dave Floyd.
Good Luck, Dave – and thanks from your friends in RiverStone

Hey everyone, RiverStone is happy to introduce Dave Mahn, as our newest lead guitarist. The guys in RiverStone are happy to have Dave on board and we look forward to many many fun gigs.
Here is a little something about him:
He was born in Iowa and moved to Montana at age 3. Lived in Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado most of his life. 12 years in the Army, mostly National Guard and Reserves. Moved to Texas in 2003. Married for 25 years and has two children ages 20 and 15. When he's not playing in a band, he enjoys riding his Harley, tinkering with electronics and amateur radio, and the outdoors (hunting, fishing, hiking).
Musically...Playing for over 30 years he grew up listening to the Beatles, CCR, and Neal Diamond. His biggest guitar influences are David Gilmour, Peter Frampton, Russ Ballard, and Paul Kossof. He has played in bands through High school, College and while in the Army. He really enjoys playing his Stratocasters (actually anything Fender) and Marshall amplification.
Everyone needs to come out and hear this guy tear it up at Threadgills (South) this coming October 10th.
Hope to see everyone there...and again welcome aboard Dave Mahn.
